Portland Pozzolana Cement Construction

Portland Pozzolana Cement is a blended cement. UltraTech states that PPC can be produced by inter-grinding clinker with fly ash containing highly reactive silica and gypsum, or by blending Ordinary Portland Cement with finer fly ash.

UltraTech's cement portfolio information describes PPC as being obtained by uniformly grinding or blending OPC with 15–35% fly ash. The pozzolanic material participates in reactions during cement hydration and contributes to the characteristics associated with PPC concrete.

Improved Workability

UltraTech highlights workability as an important advantage of its PPC cement. The finer particles help with pore filling and contribute to a cohesive mix. The cement is also designed to reduce the rate of slump loss in concrete, particularly in hot-weather conditions.

Reduced Bleeding and Permeability

High Ultimate Strength

UltraTech states that its PPC provides high ultimate strength. PPC develops its properties through the hydration of cement together with the continuing pozzolanic reaction, which forms additional cementitious compounds.

UltraTech also notes that PPC does not use the 33, 43 and 53 grade classifications applied to OPC. Customers should therefore avoid treating PPC as an OPC grade simply on the basis of its product name.
